Web Development — Platform

Introducing SiteForge: Our Custom Platform for Service Business Websites

How we built a modern, scalable appointment booking platform on AWS serverless infrastructure — and why it costs your business a fraction of traditional hosting.

Every service business needs the same core things online: a professional presence, a way for clients to book appointments, and a simple dashboard to manage it all. The challenge is that most solutions on the market make you choose between affordable and capable. Shared hosting and WordPress are inexpensive but limited. Enterprise platforms are powerful but priced for large organizations.

We built SiteForge to close that gap — a custom platform designed specifically for service businesses like therapists, salons, clinics, consultants, and studios. Fast to deploy, easy to manage, and built on the same cloud infrastructure that powers Netflix, Airbnb, and NASA.

What Is SiteForge?

SiteForge is our proprietary website platform for service businesses that want to accept online appointments. Each site built on SiteForge includes:

  • A professional public landing page with your services, about section, and contact information
  • An online booking flow where clients select a service, date, and time in three simple steps
  • A client portal where users can register, view their upcoming appointments, and cancel if needed
  • An admin dashboard where you accept, decline, or reschedule bookings and message clients directly
  • Automated email notifications for confirmations, reminders, and status updates
  • Full multi-language support (English and Spanish by default, with others available)
  • A themeable design system — each site has its own colors, fonts, and brand identity
  • Mobile-first responsive design that works on any screen size

Every SiteForge website is deployed as its own independent installation with isolated data, its own domain, and its own admin credentials. Clients keep full ownership of their data and their domain at all times.

How It Works for Your Business

From the moment a client lands on your site to the moment they walk through your door, SiteForge handles the entire flow automatically.

For Your Clients

  1. They visit your website and browse your services
  2. They create a free account and verify their email
  3. They pick a service, select an available date and time, and confirm their booking
  4. They receive an instant email confirmation and a reminder 24 hours before their appointment
  5. They can log back in anytime to view or cancel upcoming bookings

For You as the Business Owner

  1. You receive an email notification the moment a new booking comes in
  2. You log into your admin dashboard to review pending appointments
  3. You accept, decline, or propose a new time with one click
  4. Your client is automatically notified of the status update
  5. You manage your available time slots, services, and business information directly from the dashboard

No phone tag. No manual confirmation emails. No spreadsheets tracking who booked what. The platform handles the communication so you can focus on your work.

The Technology Behind It

For those interested in what powers SiteForge under the hood — we built it on a fully serverless AWS stack chosen for reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.

Frontend

Each site is built with Next.js 14 using TypeScript and Tailwind CSS. The frontend is compiled to static files and delivered globally through Amazon CloudFront, Amazon's content delivery network. This means your site loads fast regardless of where your visitors are located, with no web server to maintain or go down.

Backend

All business logic runs in Python Lambda functions on AWS — serverless compute that spins up on demand and costs nothing when idle. The API is exposed through API Gateway v2 and handles everything from authentication to appointment management. Authentication uses custom JWT tokens for secure, stateless sessions.

Database

Each site gets its own Amazon DynamoDB table using a single-table design pattern. DynamoDB is a fully managed NoSQL database with on-demand pricing — you pay only for the reads and writes your site actually performs, with no idle database cost.

Email

Transactional emails (confirmations, reminders, password resets) are sent through Brevo, a professional email delivery platform. Admin inboxes are handled through Zoho Mail, giving business owners a proper yourname@yourdomain.com mailbox that catches all incoming messages.

Infrastructure as Code

The entire AWS infrastructure for each site — from S3 buckets to CloudFront distributions to DynamoDB tables — is defined and deployed using AWS CDK v2. This means every site is provisioned consistently, reproducibly, and tracked in version control. New client sites can be spun up with a single CLI command.

What Does It Cost to Run?

One of the defining features of the SiteForge platform is how little the infrastructure costs to operate. Because everything runs serverless on AWS, you pay only for actual usage — not for idle servers sitting online 24/7.

Traffic Level Typical Business Year 1 Infrastructure Year 2+ Infrastructure
Low Local therapist, small studio, solo practitioner ~$21 / year ~$38 / year
Medium Established clinic, multi-staff salon, regional service ~$27–37 / year ~$50 / year
High Busy multi-location business, franchise ~$50–80 / year ~$80–154 / year

These are the actual AWS infrastructure costs — what goes to Amazon to keep your site running. For comparison, a standard GoDaddy shared hosting plan runs $180–375 per year after the first-year promotional price expires, without the booking system, without the admin dashboard, and without any of the custom features included in SiteForge.

Development, design, and ongoing support are quoted separately based on your specific requirements.

Built to Grow With You

SiteForge is designed around the reality that small businesses grow. A site that starts serving 200 appointments a month may be handling 2,000 within two years. On traditional shared hosting, that growth means hitting plan limits, experiencing slowdowns, and paying for an expensive upgrade.

On SiteForge, growth is handled automatically. AWS Lambda and DynamoDB scale with your traffic without any intervention, configuration change, or additional monthly fee. The infrastructure that handles 200 appointments a month is the exact same infrastructure that handles 20,000 — it simply scales to meet demand and scales back when traffic is lower.

As your business evolves, optional modules can be added to your SiteForge site:

  • Online payments via Stripe for deposits or full session fees at booking
  • WhatsApp notifications alongside email for appointment reminders
  • Email campaigns to reach your client base with promotions or news
  • Photo gallery and content sections to showcase your work
  • Blog for sharing expertise and improving search engine visibility

Data Ownership and Portability

This is something we feel strongly about. When we build your SiteForge site, everything belongs to you:

  • Your domain is registered in your name and transferable to any registrar
  • Your client data lives in your own AWS account — we never hold it on our servers
  • Your appointment history, user list, and business configuration are all exportable
  • If you ever want to move, take your site in-house, or work with a different team, you can

This stands in contrast to many SaaS booking platforms that keep your client data on their systems, restrict exports, and make it difficult to leave. With SiteForge, you are never locked in.

Who Is SiteForge For?

SiteForge is the right fit for service businesses that:

  • Take appointments and want to move the booking process online
  • Serve clients in more than one language, or plan to
  • Want a professional website without paying enterprise prices
  • Care about owning their data and not being dependent on a third-party platform
  • Expect to grow and need infrastructure that grows with them

It is particularly well-suited for therapists, counselors, wellness practitioners, salons, barbershops, medical clinics, legal and financial consultants, tutors, fitness studios, and any professional services business that operates on a scheduled appointment model.
